Cloudberry Database – Greenplum Fork, Now an Apache Incubator Project
Background: Greenplum Database (after the Broadcom acquisition of VMWare) has gone closed-source and completely shut down its open-source community. Cloudberry, created by the original developers of Greenplum Database, is an open-source Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) database. It evolves from the open-source version of the Greenplum Database® but features a newer PostgreSQL kernel and more advanced enterprise capabilities. Cloudberry can serve as a data warehouse and can also be used for large-scale analytics and AI/ML workloads. Cloudberry has just entered the Apache Incubator and rebranded to Apache Cloudberry. We’re thrilled to share this milestone with the Hacker News community. Whether you’re a Greenplum enthusiast or passionate about open-source databases, we’d love your feedback and support! Learn more in the official announcement[1] or explore the project on GitHub[2]. [1] https://cloudberry.apache.org/blog/cloudberry-database-enter... [2] https://github.com/apache/cloudberry
